As the leaves turn and routines shift, fall offers a fresh opportunity to reset and refocus. With a few intentional habits, you can turn fall into a season of calm, connection, and growth. Here are eight healthy habits your family can adopt to make fall easier—and more joyful. Putting even a couple into play can make a difference in your household.

1. Prioritize Sleep

With the sun setting earlier, it’s the perfect time to reinforce healthy sleep routines. Aim for consistent bedtimes and wake-up times—even on weekends. Create a calming wind-down ritual: dim the lights, read together, or play soft music. Sleep isn’t just rest—it’s restoration, and it sets the tone for the entire day. Both you and your children should shoot for 7–9 hours of sleep a night.

2. Create Homework-Friendly Zones

Homework doesn’t have to be a battle. Designate a quiet, clutter-free space where kids can focus. Whether it’s a corner of the kitchen or a desk in their room, having a dedicated spot helps signal that it’s time to concentrate. Consider a spot where they still have access to asking for help. Closed doors are often an invitation for procrastination. You might also find it helpful to set a daily routine for homework. If a child knows they will be coming home to get a snack and then start their homework, there shouldn’t be a question of “Did you get your homework done?” Just make sure that it is something that works for your schedule.

3. Prep the Night Before to Reduce Morning Stress

Mornings are smoother when the heavy lifting is done the night before. Lay out clothes, pack lunches, and review the next day’s schedule together. Even five minutes of prep can make mornings feel less frantic and more intentional. This is also a great opportunity to talk through any anxiety they might be having about the upcoming day.

4. Set Boundaries Around Tech

As screens become increasingly central to both schoolwork and entertainment, setting healthy boundaries is more important than ever. Thankfully, most devices now come equipped with parental controls—use them to your advantage. Many apps allow you to set time limits, and Wi-Fi can be scheduled to shut off during certain hours. Establish tech-free zones in your home, such as bedrooms and dinner tables, and set screen curfews to encourage downtime. A designated charging station in the kitchen can help keep devices out of bedrooms overnight. Promote unplugged activities like reading, outdoor play, or simply chatting as a family. Empowering the Next Generation: “Mindful of Me” Program Launches for Girls Ages 9–12

The Essential Toolkit for 9-12 Year Old Girls

We are thrilled with the recent launch of “Mindful of Me”, a powerful new collaboration between The Centered Foundation and The Yoga Barre & Co. in Tipp City.

This 5-week program is designed specifically for girls ages 9 to 12, creating a safe, welcoming space where they can explore who they are, build resilience, and make positive choices—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Why “Mindful of Me” Matters

Today’s girls face a world full of pressures—from school stress to the influence of social media to friendship anxiety. Many are experiencing stress and low self-esteem at a young age. “Mindful of Me” is our way of pressing pause on the noise and helping girls reconnect with themselves—and each other.

“We started to ask the question: What if we could help provide girls with tools to get them through some of these really tough years? That was the drive behind ‘Mindful of Me,’” says Sarah Gillenwater, Owner of The Yoga Barre & Co.

Through group discussions, journaling, and movement-based sessions, girls are introduced to a variety of health practices and empowering messages—all in a judgment-free environment where they are encouraged to just be themselves.

“Our goal is to give girls a sense of community while also offering practical lessons on things like nutrition, self-confidence, and how to deal with anxiety,” says Katy Cullis, Executive Director of The Centered Foundation.

What to Expect in the Program

Each weekly session focuses on a key theme—nutrition, self-care, friendships, managing stress and anxiety—with activities designed to spark discussion and build skills. Classes include:

  • 30 minutes of movement (yoga, CrossFit, barre, and more!)
  • Guided journaling and reflection
  • Interactive group conversations
  • Mentorship and peer connection

Most sessions take place at The Yoga Barre & Co. in downtown Tipp City, with one class held at the youth location of Centered CrossFit.

Coming This Fall: Mindful of Me Offered in a School Setting! 

Two “Mindful of Me” sessions have wrapped up and the impact has already been profound. But we’re just getting started! Thanks to Covington Elementary’s School Counselor, Lauren Bell, we’ll be holding a “Mindful of Me” session starting in late September 2025. She saw a need and reached out after the first “Mindful of Me” session this spring. After this launch, we hope to bring this offering to more schools in the area.
