Rooted in Community: How The Centered Foundation is Growing Healthy Awareness

5K

At The Centered Foundation, we believe that building a healthier future is accessible to everyone and begins right in our communities. Whether it’s through movement, mentoring, or cooking, our mission is centered around empowering youth and families to enhance their health through education, youth scholarships, and establishing mindful partnerships in Miami County. We don’t want to do it alone.

The Power of Partnership

We love collaborating with organizations that are already making a difference. That’s why we’re proud to be part of the Family Mentoring Partnership in conjunction with Partners in Hope, where together, we walk alongside families, providing mentoring, resources, and support in the areas of fitness and nutrition. We’ve collaborated with Great Dogs Know to bring a powerful workshop on social/emotional wellness to our youth at The Troy Rec. The Centered Foundation is committed to finding like-minded organizations to join forces with and further our efforts.

Fun, Fitness & Family

Each year, we host the Super Kids Fitness Challenge at Troy’s Strawberry Festival. This is a high-energy, confidence-building event that gets kids moving, laughing, and learning about the power of physical activity.

We also rally our community for what we hope to be an annual 5K, which brings families together to support wellness and raise awareness for our mission. We had an overwhelming 136 participants at our first Start Strong, Stay Strong run. These events aren’t just fundraisers—they’re celebrations of health, hope, and community spirit.

Empowering the Next Generation: “Mindful of Me” Program Launches for Girls Ages 9–12

Apr 23, 2025
Mindful of Me

The Essential Toolkit for 9-12 Year Old Girls

We are thrilled with the recent launch of “Mindful of Me”, a powerful new collaboration between The Centered Foundation and The Yoga Barre & Co. in Tipp City.

This 5-week program is designed specifically for girls ages 9 to 12, creating a safe, welcoming space where they can explore who they are, build resilience, and make positive choices—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Why “Mindful of Me” Matters

Today’s girls face a world full of pressures—from school stress to the influence of social media to friendship anxiety. Many are experiencing stress and low self-esteem at a young age. “Mindful of Me” is our way of pressing pause on the noise and helping girls reconnect with themselves—and each other.

“We started to ask the question: What if we could help provide girls with tools to get them through some of these really tough years? That was the drive behind ‘Mindful of Me,’” says Sarah Gillenwater, Owner of The Yoga Barre & Co.

Through group discussions, journaling, and movement-based sessions, girls are introduced to a variety of health practices and empowering messages—all in a judgment-free environment where they are encouraged to just be themselves.

“Our goal is to give girls a sense of community while also offering practical lessons on things like nutrition, self-confidence, and how to deal with anxiety,” says Katy Cullis, Executive Director of The Centered Foundation.

What to Expect in the Program

Each weekly session focuses on a key theme—nutrition, self-care, friendships, managing stress and anxiety—with activities designed to spark discussion and build skills. Classes include:

  • 30 minutes of movement (yoga, CrossFit, barre, and more!)
  • Guided journaling and reflection
  • Interactive group conversations
  • Mentorship and peer connection

Most sessions take place at The Yoga Barre & Co. in downtown Tipp City, with one class held at the youth location of Centered CrossFit.

Coming This Fall: Mindful of Me Offered in a School Setting!

Two “Mindful of Me” sessions have wrapped up and the impact has already been profound. But we’re just getting started! Thanks to Covington Elementary’s School Counselor, Lauren Bell, we’ll be holding a “Mindful of Me” session starting in late September 2025. She saw a need and reached out after the first “Mindful of Me” session this spring. After this launch, we hope to bring this offering to more schools in the area.

Establish a Healthy Habit That Will Last a Lifetime! Youth Sponsorships Now Available

Apr 23, 2025

At The Centered Foundation, we believe every child deserves the chance to move, play, and grow strong—regardless of financial circumstances. That’s why we’re excited to offer Youth Sponsorships of up to $150 to help cover the cost of physical activity programs for kids and teens in Miami County.

Whether it’s dance, martial arts, soccer, swim lessons, or something totally unique—you choose the activity, and we’ll do our best to provide the funding. To date we have funded children to attend:

  • Tennis sessions at Schroeder Tennis Center
  • CrossFit Kids Summer Camp,
  • Tipp City Jr. Baseball and Softballs teams
  • Mindful of Me Program for 9-12 year old girls.

Why movement matters:
Regular physical activity helps youth build confidence, improve mental health, and develop lifelong healthy habits. It’s about connection, joy, fitness, discipline, and overall well-being.

Need support?
Families who could use financial help can easily apply on our website. Please note that we do give special consideration to families with significant financial needs.
